EHR and the Year-End Close: Tips for Making it the Most Wonderful New Year

As the classic song goes, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” Although it is fair to recognize that after this year’s challenges, it may not feel that way. Almost everyone in the health IT community is looking to the New Year as a fresh start, or a continuation of the incredible, yes incredible, progress made this year. To that end, it is necessary to ensure a complete and accurate close to 2020 in the EHR, as well as be able to access new changes and requirements quickly.

There is significant but beneficial work in being able to close the year within the EHR. Some of this work includes closing and reconciling the previous month’s accounts, requesting your providers update their queues, and completing necessary year-end audits and reporting.

CereCore’s Epic, MEDITECH, and Regulatory teams have made available a few resources to support our Health IT community at year-end.

  • EHR Year-End Checklist: This downloadable spreadsheet is a helpful starting point for typical year-end EHR tasks, regardless of which EHR solution your facility is operating.
  • MEDITECH Expanse Enhancement Library: This online library contains descriptions of the latest enhancements to MEDITECH Expanse and recorded demos of installed enhancements within CereCore’s own MEDITECH solution. You must subscribe to access this library and receive notifications when new content is added.
  • Regulatory Knowledgebase: This knowledgebase from our regulatory team tracks new regulatory requirements impacting the EHR. It will be made accessible online to CereCore clients in early 2021. In the spirit of the holidays, the team will accept requests and questions from hospital and health system professionals to knowledgebase articles before this content release.
